Three Charged After Stolen Vehicle Fleeing Police in Tillsonburg

On October 5, 2025, a routine call about a suspicious vehicle in Tillsonburg escalated into a high-speed chase involving the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). At approximately 7:30 a.m., officers from the Oxford County OPP Detachment responded to reports of a vehicle acting suspiciously on Simcoe Street.

Upon locating the vehicle, officers initiated a traffic stop; however, the driver refused to pull over and sped away from the scene. The pursuit led police to Plank Line in the Township of South-West Oxford, where they successfully tracked down both the vehicle and its occupants.

Investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen, escalating the situation into a serious criminal incident. As a result, three individuals were charged with various offences.

A 17-year-old youth faces significant charges, including:

  • Flight from a Peace Officer

  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

Additionally, two adults—18-year-old Chloe Dunn from St. Catharines and 19-year-old Benjamin Gilley from Howick Township—were also charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

All three accused individuals have since been released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock at a later date. The youth’s identity is protected under Canadian law, which safeguards the identities of minors involved in criminal proceedings.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges that law enforcement faces with vehicle theft and reckless driving, highlighting the importance of community vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activity. The OPP encourages residents to remain watchful and report any unusual behaviour in their neighbourhoods, reinforcing the collective responsibility for public safety.

As investigations continue, local authorities are working to address the broader issues surrounding vehicle thefts and to implement strategies aimed at reducing such incidents in the future.
