Five Drivers Charged with Impaired Driving in Ottawa Over the Weekend

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Ottawa reported a significant increase in impaired driving incidents over the weekend, charging five individuals with various offences. The enforcement actions were part of a proactive approach to ensure road safety, particularly during a busy traffic period.

Between October 3 and October 5, 2025, officers responded to multiple traffic complaints and collisions, employing Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) and other enforcement strategies on local highways. The results were telling: five drivers now face impaired driving charges, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety and the dangers of driving under the influence.

Among those charged was an 18-year-old G2 driver from Carleton Place, who was stopped for speeding just before 11:00 p.m. on October 3. The driver was clocked at an alarming 148 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 417. During this routine traffic stop, officers conducted a roadside alcohol screening test, which led to further testing at the Ottawa Detachment. This incident underscores the critical need for vigilance among young drivers, particularly those still navigating the early stages of their driving experience.

In addition to the speeding G2 driver, four other individuals were charged with impaired driving offences throughout the weekend. The OPP’s commitment to proactive enforcement has proven effective in identifying and addressing impaired driving, a serious issue that poses risks not only to the driver but to everyone on the road.

Moreover, during these enforcement activities, officers also recovered a stolen vehicle, further showcasing the OPP’s dedication to tackling crime beyond just impaired driving. The recovery of stolen property is an important aspect of policing, and it reflects the OPP’s ongoing efforts to maintain community safety.

The OPP encourages all drivers to make responsible choices when behind the wheel. With increased awareness and enforcement, the hope is to deter impaired driving and reduce the associated risks on Ontario’s roads. As this weekend’s arrests demonstrate, the consequences of impaired driving can be severe, and law enforcement will continue to take action against those who jeopardize public safety.

As Ontario moves into the fall season with more social gatherings and events, awareness around impaired driving is crucial. It’s a reminder for all drivers to stay safe, plan their travels wisely, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The OPP’s efforts reflect a broader commitment to ensuring the safety of all road users in Ottawa and across the province. With ongoing enforcement and community engagement, there is hope for a marked decline in these dangerous behaviours in the future.
