Peterborough Man Charged with Assault Following Store Parking Lot Incident


A man from Peterborough has been charged with assault following an incident that took place outside a store in the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan on October 3, 2025.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were called to the scene after reports of an altercation in the parking lot of a store located along Highway 7. The incident began when a male approached another individual shortly after both had exited the store. A brief exchange of words escalated quickly, resulting in one man striking the other.

When OPP officers arrived, they found the victim with visible injuries. While they were assessing the situation, the alleged assailant, identified as 48-year-old Ryan Legault of Peterborough, returned to the scene and approached the police. He was immediately taken into custody.

Legault has been charged with one count of assault. After his arrest, he was released and is scheduled to appear in court on November 4, 2025, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.
