Red Lake Woman, 61, Charged with Impaired Driving Following Collision

On October 1, 2025, a routine call to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Red Lake Detachment turned into a serious matter when officers responded to a motor vehicle collision at the 10 Summers Road complex. The incident, which occurred in the municipality of Red Lake around 4:30 PM, led to the arrest of 61-year-old Nelia Dubreuil after officers determined she was impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers conducted an investigation that revealed Dubreuil’s condition was not only impaired but also above the legal blood alcohol concentration limit. This prompted her immediate arrest, and she was subsequently taken to the Red Lake OPP Detachment for further testing to determine her blood alcohol levels.

As a result of the investigation, Dubreuil has been charged under the Criminal Code with two offenses: Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs, and Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus).

After being processed, Dubreuil was released from custody, with a scheduled court appearance set for Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Red Lake.

This incident underscores the ongoing commitment of the OPP to remove impaired drivers from the roads through rigorous enforcement and public education. The OPP encourages the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected impaired driving by calling 9-1-1, emphasizing that timely reporting can save lives.

As the community grapples with the consequences of impaired driving, this case serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible alcohol consumption and the potential dangers on the road.
