Hearst Woman Charged with Impaired Driving on Highway 11 After Traffic Stop
On October 2, 2025, a routine traffic enforcement initiative by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in the James Bay region resulted in significant charges against a 28-year-old woman from Hearst, Ontario. The incident unfolded around noon when an OPP officer patrolling Highway 11 observed a vehicle travelling at an unusually low speed of 45 km/h in a 90 km/h zone. The car was also seen struggling to maintain its lane, prompting the officer to initiate a traffic stop.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer suspected that the driver, identified as Manpreet Kaur, had consumed an intoxicating substance. This suspicion led to her immediate arrest and subsequent transport to the Cochrane OPP detachment for further testing.
Following a thorough investigation, Kaur was charged with several serious offences related to impaired driving. Specifically, she faces charges for:
-
Operation while impaired - drugs.
-
Operation while impaired - blood drug concentration.
-
Failing to stop for an emergency vehicle.
-
Unnecessary slow driving.
Kaur has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on November 4, 2025.
The incident underscores the ongoing commitment of the OPP to road safety and the enforcement of impaired driving laws, particularly in the wake of rising concerns regarding road safety and public health. Impaired driving not only endangers the driver but also poses significant risks to other road users.
The OPP reminds all drivers to remain vigilant and responsible while behind the wheel, especially as the holiday season approaches and the potential for increased traffic and celebrations rises.
