The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Haldimand County have laid impaired driving charges against three individuals following a series of traffic stops over the weekend. The incidents occurred on September 27, 2025, underscoring the ongoing issue of impaired driving on local roads.

The first arrest took place in the early hours of the morning at approximately 2:10 a.m. An OPP officer on patrol on Highway 6, near Hagersville, noticed a vehicle that piqued their interest. When the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver failed to comply. Eventually, the vehicle was brought to a stop, leading to the arrest of the driver.

Matthew Frum, a 57-year-old resident of Hagersville, has been charged with multiple offences, including:

• Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

• Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor

• Fail to Stop for Police

• Class G1 Licence Holder - Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver

Frum is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on October 14, 2025, to answer to these charges.

Later that same day, at around 11:25 p.m., the Haldimand OPP conducted another traffic stop due to a traffic violation on Mackenzie Road near Caledonia. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest.

Darryl Koning, a 40-year-old from Caledonia, was arrested during this incident, although the specific charges he faces have not been detailed in the report.
