Bayham Man Charged with Impaired Driving After Traffic Stop in Huron East


A routine traffic stop in Huron East ended with the arrest of a 25-year-old man for impaired driving. On Saturday, September 27, 2025, just after 9:00 p.m., Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were patrolling Main Street in Seaforth when they noticed a vehicle operating without its taillights activated.

The officers conducted a traffic stop and initiated a conversation with the driver, later identified as Andrew Martens from Bayham. During the interaction, officers suspected impairment and subsequently arrested Martens for impaired operation of a vehicle.

Following the arrest, Martens was transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton, where he provided breath samples to a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician. The results indicated that his blood alcohol concentration was over the legal limit, leading to formal charges.

Martens has been charged with Operation while Impaired - Over 80, a serious offence under the Criminal Code. As part of the legal proceedings, his vehicle was towed and impounded for a period of seven days. Additionally, his driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, reflecting the serious nature of the offence.

The OPP’s swift action in this case underscores their commitment to road safety and the enforcement of impaired driving laws.
