OPP Arrests Oshawa Man After Recovering $40,000 in Stolen Marine Equipment in North Kawartha Township
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made a significant breakthrough in a recent theft case involving marine equipment in North Kawartha Township. On September 29, 2025, officers from the Peterborough County and Northumberland Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a search warrant in Durham, leading to the recovery of approximately $40,000 worth of stolen items.
The incident began when an OPP officer responded to reports of a theft at a local marina. It was revealed that, during the early hours of September 28, several trolling motors and fish finders had been stolen from boats docked at the facility. Prompted by this information, the CSCU initiated an investigation into the matter.
Their efforts quickly led them to an address in Durham, where they believed the stolen equipment might be located. Upon arrival, officers discovered the marine items, but the suspect attempted to flee the scene. However, police were able to apprehend the individual shortly thereafter.
The suspect has been identified as 53-year-old Andre Leveille from Oshawa, Ontario. He has been charged with several offences, including theft over $5,000, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, four counts of failing to comply with a release order, and a breach of probation. Leveille was held for a bail hearing to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of the OPP in combating theft and property crime within the community. Investigators are still seeking information from the public regarding the stolen marine equipment, aiming to return the items to their rightful owners.
The recovery of such a significant amount of stolen property not only serves to reassure local residents and business owners but also underscores the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activities. As authorities continue their investigation, they encourage anyone with further information to come forward.
