Huntsville Man Charged After Shoplifting and Weapon Incident
In a series of events that unfolded in Huntsville, Ontario, a local man has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including assault with a weapon and theft.
On September 18, 2025, Saverio CERRA, 47, was involved in a shoplifting incident at the Freshmart grocery store in Port Sydney. According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), CERRA stole alcohol and various food items during this incident. He was identified and subsequently arrested on September 30, 2025, and was released from custody with a court date pending at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge.
However, the day took a more alarming turn just hours later. At approximately 2 p.m. on the same day, OPP officers responded to a report of a man brandishing what appeared to be a knife near West Road in Huntsville. The investigation revealed that the suspect matched the description of the individual arrested earlier that day.
Witness information was instrumental in the swift resolution of the situation. Despite CERRA’s aggressive behavior, no injuries were reported to the public during the incident. Officers located CERRA and arrested him without further incident.
As a result of both incidents, he now faces serious charges, including assault with a weapon and theft under $5,000. The community is reminded of the importance of reporting suspicious activities, as the cooperation of witnesses played a crucial role in ensuring public safety.
CERRA’s court proceedings are set to take place in the coming weeks, where he will answer to the charges against him. The incidents serve as a stark reminder of ongoing issues surrounding petty crime and public safety in Huntsville and its surrounding areas.
Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities as local law enforcement continues to address crime in the community.
