Fatal Tractor Rollover in South Dundas Township Claims 79-Year-Old Life
A tragic incident in South Dundas Township has resulted in the death of a 79-year-old man following a tractor rollover. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that the accident occurred on Monday, September 29, 2025, at approximately 6:00 PM.
Authorities were alerted to the scene, located on a trail near the intersection of Caughnawaga Road and Forest Road, northwest of Morrisburg, after bystanders walking on the trail discovered the overturned tractor. They found the operator pinned beneath the vehicle, and despite the prompt response from the OPP’s Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Detachment as well as Cornwall-SD&G Paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of South Dundas Township. Initial investigations conducted by the OPP and the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team suggest that the tractor had veered off the trail, leading to its rollover and the fatal injuries sustained by the operator.
This incident serves as a somber reminder of the potential dangers associated with agricultural machinery, particularly in rural areas where such equipment is commonly used. The OPP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the rollover to determine any contributing factors.
As the community mourns the loss of a local resident, it is crucial for operators of tractors and other heavy machinery to exercise caution and adhere to safety practices to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The OPP urges everyone to remain vigilant when operating or encountering agricultural equipment on public trails and roadways.
