Ottawa Driver Kwe Gui Charged with Impaired Driving After Wrong Way Incident
In a concerning incident that underscores the ongoing battle against impaired driving, a 24-year-old Ottawa man has been charged after he was observed driving the wrong way on city streets in the early hours of September 30, 2025. Kwe Gui now faces serious charges from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), highlighting the risks associated with alcohol consumption and driving.
The incident occurred shortly after 4:00 a.m. when OPP officers spotted a vehicle making a wrong-way turn on Isabella Street. Officers immediately suspected that the driver might be under the influence of alcohol. Following standard procedure, they conducted a roadside screening, which confirmed their suspicions.
Gui was subsequently taken to the Ottawa Detachment for further testing. The results of these tests led to the charges being laid against him. He is now facing two specific counts: operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
As a result of the charges, Gui has had his driver’s licence suspended for a period of 90 days, and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days. This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with impaired driving, as well as the OPP’s commitment to keeping our roads safe.
Gui is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa at a later date to answer for these charges. The police have emphasized the importance of responsible driving, especially during late-night hours when the potential for impaired operation increases.
With the summer months behind us and fall in full swing, it is critical for all drivers to remain vigilant and aware of their limits, ensuring that our roads remain safe for everyone.
