In a proactive effort to curb impaired driving, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Frontenac Detachment conducted a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program in South Frontenac Township early Saturday morning, September 27, 2025. The operation took place shortly before 2:00 a.m. at the intersection of Latimer and Davidson Road.
During the RIDE checkpoint, officers stopped a vehicle and performed an alcohol screening test. The driver, identified as 21-year-old Maximus Gill from Inverary, was arrested on the spot after the screening indicated impairment. He was subsequently transported to the detachment for further testing.
Gill faces several serious charges, including:
-
Operation while impaired - alcohol
-
Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
-
Driving with liquor readily available
-
Young driver - blood alcohol concentration above zero
The OPP has emphasized the importance of initiatives like the RIDE program in promoting road safety and reducing the number of impaired drivers on the roads. With the holiday season approaching, increased vigilance against impaired driving is crucial, as many individuals may partake in celebrations that involve alcohol consumption.
The penalties for impaired driving in Ontario are severe, reflecting the serious nature of the offense. Convictions can lead to significant fines, licence suspensions, and even jail time.
Authorities encourage the public to report suspected impaired drivers and to always plan a safe way home if alcohol will be consumed. The OPP reminds motorists that the safety of all road users is paramount, and initiatives like the RIDE program serve as vital tools in maintaining safer communities.
Maximus Gill’s case highlights the ongoing battle against impaired driving, and it serves as a reminder to all drivers to remain vigilant and responsible behind the wheel. As law enforcement continues to crack down on impaired driving, the message is clear: driving under the influence will not be tolerated.
