Caledon Man Arrested for Harassing School Crossing Guards in Dufferin County
In a troubling incident that has raised concerns for community safety, a 33-year-old man from Caledon has been arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) for harassing school crossing guards. This arrest comes after multiple reports of alarming behaviour that created unsafe conditions for children and parents in Dufferin County.
The situation escalated over the past few weeks, culminating on September 17, 2025, when OPP received complaints about a male driver who was repeatedly passing by school crossing guards while yelling profanities and honking his horn. Witnesses reported that his actions were not only disruptive but also posed a significant risk during rush hour traffic, a time when children are especially vulnerable.
Following these reports, the OPP initiated an investigation and made attempts to de-escalate the situation. However, these efforts ultimately led to the arrest of Michael Richardson on September 25, 2025. He has been charged with three counts of Criminal Harassment - Threatening Conduct.
The OPP has emphasized the importance of maintaining a respectful environment for those who work to ensure the safety of school children. Harassing individuals who are performing their duties, such as crossing guards, is not only irresponsible but can also have severe repercussions.
“This type of behaviour is unacceptable in our communities,” stated a representative from the OPP. “We must work together to create a safe and respectful environment, where everyone can carry out their duties free from harassment and intimidation.”
The arrest serves as a reminder of the responsibilities all community members share in fostering a safe environment, particularly for children. As the school year progresses, it is crucial that residents remain vigilant and supportive of those who help ensure the safety of students as they travel to and from school.
The OPP is urging anyone with additional information regarding this case to come forward, highlighting the community’s role in maintaining safety.
As this incident underscores, cooperation between law enforcement and the public is essential in combating harassment and ensuring that our schools remain safe havens for children.
