Weapons Seized from Solo Driver After Collision in Huron-Kinloss

On September 25, 2025, a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 21 and Concession 10 in the Township of Huron-Kinloss led to an unexpected discovery by the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

At approximately 5:41 p.m., officers responded to the scene where a single vehicle was involved in an accident. The lone occupant of the vehicle, identified as 56-year-old Robert McKay, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

During their investigation, officers began assessing the vehicle for damages. In plain view, they noticed a variety of weapons visible inside the car. This prompted a thorough search of the vehicle, which revealed several illegal items: batons, brass knuckles, pepper spray, handcuffs, and various rounds of ammunition.

As a result of these findings, McKay was charged with seven counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon under the Criminal Code of Canada, alongside a charge for failure to comply with an undertaking. These serious allegations have placed McKay in custody, where he awaits a bail hearing.

The incident underscores ongoing concerns about weapon possession and public safety in Ontario. The South Bruce OPP is urging anyone with additional information related to the case to step forward, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in maintaining safety.

As Ontario continues to grapple with issues surrounding illegal weapons, this case serves as a reminder of the potential dangers that can arise from seemingly routine traffic stops. The OPP remains vigilant in its efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety of its communities.
