Windsor Man Charged with Criminal Offence After Speeding on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent

In a recent traffic enforcement action, a 28-year-old Windsor resident was charged with serious driving offences after being stopped for speeding on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent. The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at around 8:37 PM when Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers noticed a vehicle travelling above the speed limit.

Upon stopping the vehicle, officers initiated an investigation that revealed the driver, identified as Michael Olsen, was operating the vehicle despite being prohibited from doing so under the Criminal Code. This finding led to charges of Operation While Prohibited in addition to the speeding violation under the Highway Traffic Act.

As part of the enforcement measures, the OPP implemented a 45-day vehicle impoundment, which is standard procedure in such cases. Following the incident, Olsen was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on November 26, 2025.

The OPP has taken this opportunity to remind the public about the importance of road safety and the dangers of impaired and reckless driving. They encourage citizens to report any dangerous driving behaviours, stating that a simple call could potentially save lives. Residents can reach out to the OPP by dialling 911 for emergencies or 1-888-310-1122 for non-urgent matters.

This incident underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement in Ontario to maintain road safety and enforce traffic laws, particularly on busy highways like the 401, which is known for its high traffic volume. As the province continues to navigate challenges associated with road safety, the OPP remains vigilant in their enforcement duties, ensuring that roads are safer for all drivers.
