Brockton Driver Arrested After High-Speed Fleeing from OPP Traffic Stop

In a dramatic turn of events on September 24, 2025, a 21-year-old resident of Brockton found himself in hot water after fleeing from a traffic stop initiated by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The incident, which unfolded around 4:54 p.m. on Bruce Road 1, began with a complaint regarding a possible impaired driver, prompting officers to take action.

When the OPP located the suspect’s vehicle, the driver, identified as Brett Hagan, did not comply with the traffic stop. Instead, he fled at a high rate of speed, leading police on a chase that raised alarms across the community. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle driving dangerously, swerving into oncoming traffic, which only heightened concerns for the safety of other road users.

The police continued to receive multiple complaints about Hagan’s reckless driving throughout the region. Thankfully, the situation culminated safely when officers tracked down the vehicle later at a residence along Bruce Road 1, where Hagan was arrested without further incident.

Hagan is now facing a series of serious charges, including:

  • Operation while impaired under the Criminal Code (CC 320.14(1)(a))

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle (CC 320.13(1))

  • Two counts of flight from a peace officer (CC 320.17)

  • Driving while under suspension (Highway Traffic Act 53(1))

  • Driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available (Liquor License Control Act 42(1)(b))

Following his arrest, Hagan was held in custody for a bail hearing. The severity of the charges reflects the OPP’s commitment to road safety and the importance of responsible driving, particularly concerning impaired driving.

This incident serves as a reminder for all drivers to adhere to traffic laws and to understand the serious consequences of impaired and reckless driving. The OPP encourages anyone with additional information related to this incident to come forward.

As we head into the fall season, it is crucial for all Canadians to prioritize safety on the roads. The OPP continues to remind the public that driving under the influence not only endangers the driver but also puts other innocent lives at risk.
