Huron County Man Charged with Impaired Driving and Mischief After Collision Incident

On September 10, 2025, a resident of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township found himself in trouble with the law after a collision involving a pickup truck and an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). The incident occurred just after 7:00 p.m. on River Mill Line near Nile Road, prompting a response from the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Upon arriving on the scene, police noticed the presence of an ATV. It was soon determined that the driver of this vehicle had consumed alcohol before taking to the trails. As a result, officers arrested the individual on the charges of impaired operation.

Unfortunately, the situation escalated during the transport of the accused. While in custody, he caused damage to the police cruiser and the holding area. This act of mischief added to the charges he would face.

The accused, identified as 26-year-old Ashton Clements from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, is now facing two charges:

  • Impaired Operation - Over 80,

  • Mischief to Property Under $5,000.

Ashton was processed and subsequently released from custody, with a court appearance scheduled for a later date.

This incident serves as a reminder of the serious risks associated with impaired driving, particularly in rural areas where ATVs are commonly used. The OPP is vigilant in its efforts to keep our roads and trails safe, and incidents like this highlight the importance of responsible operation of vehicles.

As Canadians, we pride ourselves on enjoying the great outdoors, and with that comes the responsibility to ensure that we do so safely and legally. The OPP continues to encourage all operators of vehicles, including ATVs, to refrain from consuming alcohol before driving, to prevent tragedies on our roads and trails.

As the community processes this incident, it is crucial to remember that safety should always be a priority, whether on four wheels or two.
