Two Arrested Following Violent Home Invasion in Bruce Mines
In a distressing incident that rattled the small community of Bruce Mines, Ontario, two individuals have been apprehended following a violent home invasion that took place on September 19, 2025. Myron Jones, 39, and Gregory Belleau, 48, both hailing from Garden River First Nation, now face multiple charges including robbery and assault.
According to the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers responded to an urgent call at approximately 8:39 AM regarding a robbery at a residence on Government Road. Upon arrival, they discovered that two intruders had entered the victims’ home, assaulted them, and threatened them with firearms. The assailants fled the scene before police could intervene.
Just over an hour later, the Garden River Anishinabek Police Service (APS) received a report about a suspicious vehicle parked at a residence on Syrette Lake Road within Garden River First Nation. The vehicle matched the description of one used in the earlier robbery, prompting immediate police action. To ensure public safety and facilitate a thorough investigation, Syrette Lake Road was temporarily closed for several hours.
Thanks to a coordinated effort involving the Batchewana First Nation Police, Sault Ste. Marie OPP, and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Emergency Services Unit, both suspects were located and arrested at the residence.
The shocking nature of this incident highlights ongoing concerns surrounding safety in rural communities. According to local resident Mary Thompson, “It’s unsettling to think something like this could happen so close to home. We expect our small towns to be safe havens, and this just reminds us that we need to be vigilant.”
While incidents of violent crime are relatively rare in smaller Ontario communities like Bruce Mines, this particular case serves as a stark reminder of the threats that can emerge unexpectedly. The OPP has reassured the public that they are working diligently to investigate the matter and bring justice for the victims involved.
As the investigation continues, both Jones and Belleau remain in custody awaiting their court appearances. The community is left to grapple with the implications of this event, as residents express their relief that no one was fatally harmed, while also calling for increased support and resources to address crime in their area.
In light of this incident, local leaders are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities. The OPP has reiterated its commitment to community safety and encourages all citizens to stay informed and proactive in safeguarding their neighbourhoods.
As the situation unfolds, Bruce Mines residents hope for swift justice and a return to normalcy in their community.
