Dryden Man Charged with Impaired Driving After Late-Night Traffic Stop

In a significant enforcement action aimed at enhancing road safety, a 50-year-old resident of Dryden, Kris Plomp, has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made the arrest during a routine traffic stop in Wainright Township on September 15, 2025, at approximately 2:00 a.m.

The incident unfolded when officers from the Dryden OPP Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Thiel Road. Upon investigation, they determined that the driver was under the influence of both alcohol and drugs. This prompted the officers to place Plomp under arrest and transport him to the Dryden detachment for further testing.

Impaired driving remains a serious concern across Canada, particularly in rural areas like Dryden, where the potential for accidents can increase with late-night driving under the influence. The OPP’s commitment to addressing this issue through rigorous enforcement and public education is crucial in preventing tragic incidents on our roads.

Kris Plomp has been charged under the Criminal Code with “Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs.” Following the arrest, he has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden on October 28, 2025.

As Canadians, it is our responsibility to ensure the safety of our communities. The OPP encourages anyone who suspects a driver is impaired to report it immediately by calling 9-1-1. It is a simple action that can save lives and keep our roads safe for all.

The OPP’s proactive approach in tackling impaired driving is commendable, especially as we approach the holiday season, when instances of impaired driving typically rise. With the right public awareness and continued enforcement, we can strive for a future where such incidents become increasingly rare, making our streets safer for everyone.

This recent charge serves as a critical reminder of the dangers associated with impaired driving. As responsible citizens, let’s work together to promote safe driving practices and protect our communities from the risks posed by impaired drivers.
