Renfrew Man Charged with Driving While Prohibited After R.I.D.E Initiative

On September 18, 2025, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Renfrew Detachment conducted a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) initiative in the Township of Admaston/Bromley, a community known for its stunning landscapes and tight-knit population. This proactive measure is part of the OPP’s ongoing efforts to ensure road safety across Ontario, particularly as we head into the fall season when more drivers will be on the road.

During this initiative, at approximately 1:20 p.m., officers approached a vehicle operated by 42-year-old Daniel Crabtree, a resident of Renfrew. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Crabtree was operating the vehicle while prohibited from doing so, leading to his immediate arrest.

The OPP’s commitment to reducing impaired driving is crucial, especially in rural areas like Renfrew County, where the consequences of impaired driving can be particularly severe due to long stretches of roadway and less immediate access to emergency services. The R.I.D.E initiative is designed not only to catch offenders but to deter potential incidents through visible enforcement.

Crabtree was charged with operating a vehicle while prohibited and was subsequently released. He is set to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on October 29, 2025, to answer to the charge.

This incident highlights the importance of community awareness and cooperation with law enforcement efforts. The R.I.D.E program is a critical tool in promoting safe driving habits and reducing the number of impaired drivers on the road.

As we reflect on this case, it serves as a reminder to all Canadians about the responsibility we share in keeping our roads safe. Whether it’s through designated drivers, public transit, or simply making the choice to stay sober, every action counts in the fight against impaired driving.

For residents of Renfrew and surrounding areas, staying informed and proactive about road safety can help prevent incidents like this in the future. The community’s engagement with OPP initiatives not only strengthens public safety but also fosters a spirit of cooperation among residents and law enforcement.

The OPP encourages all drivers to remain vigilant and responsible, especially as we transition into a season where social gatherings become more frequent. Together, we can work towards a safer Ontario for everyone.
