In a concerning incident that highlights the importance of road safety, a 20-year-old man from Chippewas of the Thames First Nation has been charged with impaired driving following a collision involving a golf cart on private property in Southwest Middlesex.

On September 20, 2025, at approximately 4:45 PM, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) from Middlesex County, along with the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Police and Oneida Nation Police, responded to a report of a collision at a business located on Longwoods Road.

Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered that the driver had lost control of the golf cart, resulting in it rolling over. The driver was promptly transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Following a thorough investigation, officers charged Cruise Cornelius with two serious offences under the Criminal Code:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood

Cornelius has since been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on October 16, 2025.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with impaired driving, regardless of the vehicle being operated. In Canada, the legal limit for blood alcohol concentration is set at 0.08, and operating any vehicle, including golf carts, under the influence is a serious offence.
