Tiny Township Man Charged with Impaired Driving After ORV Crash Injures Passenger

In a concerning incident that underscores the critical importance of road safety, a 29-year-old man from Tiny Township has been charged with impaired driving following an off-road vehicle (ORV) crash that left a 31-year-old male passenger seriously injured. The incident occurred late Saturday night, September 20, 2025, around 11:49 p.m. in a wooded area near Nineth Concession East and Baseline Road.

According to the Southern Georgian Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the driver was operating a John Deere side-by-side ORV when it struck a downed tree, causing the vehicle to crash. Emergency services, including Tiny Township Fire and Simcoe County Paramedics, quickly responded to the scene. The injured passenger was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the ORV, identified as David Petten, was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with two serious offenses: operation while impaired - alcohol and operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). Petten was later released and is scheduled to appear in court before the Ontario Court of Justice.

This incident raises alarms about the risks associated with impaired driving, particularly as Ontarians embrace the fall season, often characterized by outdoor activities like ORV riding. With the stunning landscapes of Ontario beckoning, it is crucial for drivers to remain vigilant and responsible.

The OPP reminds the public that impaired driving is a serious offense that endangers not only the driver but also passengers and other road users. With the increasing popularity of ORVs in rural areas, it is essential to prioritize safety and refrain from operating any vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

As the community processes this unfortunate event, it serves as a sobering reminder of the need for responsible behavior while enjoying Ontario’s natural beauty. The OPP continues to encourage citizens to report any suspected impaired drivers to help keep our roads safe.

As we head into the fall months, let’s all commit to making responsible choices, ensuring that our adventures in nature remain safe and enjoyable for everyone.
