Sunderland Woman Charged with Impaired Driving Following Collision in Kawartha Lakes

In a concerning incident that underscores the ongoing battle against impaired driving, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a 41-year-old woman from Sunderland following a single-vehicle collision in the City of Kawartha Lakes.

The collision took place late Saturday night, September 20, 2025, at approximately 11:55 PM. OPP officers were dispatched to Salem Road in Mariposa Township after receiving reports of the accident. Upon arrival, officers quickly initiated an investigation that revealed the driver was operating the vehicle while impaired.

Ronda Bazley has since been charged with “Operation while Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80,” a serious offense that reflects the dangers posed by impaired driving to our communities. The consequences of such actions are far-reaching, not only risking the lives of those directly involved but also endangering innocent bystanders on the road.

As a result of the charges, Bazley’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and her vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days. She is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date, where she will face the legal ramifications of her actions.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to keep our roads safe. The OPP is committed to upholding public safety and has been active in educating the public about the dangers of impaired driving, especially as we approach the holiday season when celebrations can often lead to poor decisions behind the wheel.

In recent years, initiatives aimed at reducing impaired driving incidents have been implemented across Ontario. These include increased roadside checks and educational campaigns to promote awareness about the risks associated with alcohol consumption and driving.

As Canadians, we all have a role to play in ensuring the safety of our communities. If you plan on drinking, consider using alternative transportation methods, such as designated drivers, taxis, or rideshare services. By making responsible choices, we can work together to reduce the number of impaired driving incidents on our roads.

The OPP’s proactive approach aims to discourage impaired driving and protect all road users. As we reflect on this recent collision, let us remember the significance of making safe choices and looking out for one another on the road.
