In a recent incident highlighting the ongoing battle against impaired driving in Ontario, a 30-year-old man from Peterborough has been charged after police found him in a ditch on Highway 7 in Kawartha Lakes. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment reported the details of the case following the early morning discovery on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

At approximately 2:10 AM, OPP officers on general patrol came across a vehicle that had veered off the roadway and ended up in the ditch near Slanted Road. Recognizing the potential for an impaired driving situation, the officers initiated an investigation at the scene.

As a result of their inquiries, Ryan Blundell was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired, specifically for having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit of 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood—a serious offense under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Impaired driving remains a significant concern across the country, with law enforcement agencies emphasizing the need for public awareness and responsible behaviour behind the wheel.
