Peterborough County Driver Charged with Impaired Driving Following Erratic Behaviour
In a concerning incident highlighting the ongoing issue of impaired driving in Ontario, officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a 52-year-old man with driving while impaired. The arrest took place on Friday, September 19, 2025, shortly after 5:30 PM, following a traffic complaint about erratic driving in Douro-Dummer Township.
The OPP received reports about a vehicle driving unpredictably on South Street, prompting officers to investigate. Upon locating the vehicle and speaking with the driver, the officers determined that the individual exhibited signs of impairment. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.
Robert Cousins, a resident of Peterborough, faces serious charges, including operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs. In addition to the charges, his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle has been impounded for a period of seven days. Cousins is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 21, 2025, to answer to these charges.
