Norwich Township Man Charged with Impaired Driving in Tillsonburg

In a timely reminder about the dangers of impaired driving, a 54-year-old man from Norwich Township has been charged following a traffic complaint in Tillsonburg. On the evening of September 20, 2025, around 9:30 p.m., the Oxford Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received calls about a possible impaired driver operating a vehicle near the intersection of Broadway Road and Quarter Town Line.

Upon arrival, officers quickly located the suspect vehicle in the vicinity. The ensuing investigation led to the arrest of Steve Moniz, who now faces two significant charges: Operation while Impaired - Alcohol and Operation while Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration over 80 mg.

In accordance with Ontario’s stringent laws aimed at curbing impaired driving, Moniz will face a 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) alongside a seven-day vehicle impoundment. These measures are part of a broader strategy to enhance road safety and reduce incidents related to impaired driving.

After being taken into custody, Moniz was released and is scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock on a date yet to be determined.

The OPP stresses the importance of community involvement in maintaining safe roadways. They urge citizens to report any instances of impaired, aggressive, or reckless driving. In emergency situations, individuals are encouraged to contact 911, while non-emergency reports can be made by calling 1-888-310-1122.

As Canadians, we understand that our roads are shared spaces, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure safety for all users. The ongoing efforts of the OPP and the vigilance of our communities play a vital role in preventing impaired driving incidents, which can have devastating consequences.

This latest incident serves as a crucial reminder that impaired driving is not only illegal but also poses a serious threat to public safety. If you suspect someone is driving under the influence, do not hesitate to report it; your actions could save lives.
