Mississauga Man Charged with Multiple Impaired Driving Offences in Caledon RIDE Stop

In a significant enforcement action underscoring the Ontario Provincial Police’s commitment to road safety, a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program in Caledon has resulted in the arrest of a 59-year-old man from Mississauga. Dimitar Gagov was charged with multiple offences after being stopped by officers on August 30, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m.

During the RIDE program, which is part of the OPP’s ongoing efforts to curb impaired driving year-round—not just during holiday seasons—officers conducted a routine traffic stop near Mayfield Road and Dixie Road. Upon investigation, officers formed grounds to believe that Gagov’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was compromised due to alcohol consumption.

Gagov now faces a trio of charges: driving while under suspension, having liquor readily available in a motor vehicle, and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit (80 mg or more).

The seriousness of these charges cannot be understated. Driving under suspension is a violation that poses risks not only to the offender but also to other road users. The presence of alcohol in the vehicle, combined with an elevated blood alcohol concentration, paints a troubling picture of impaired driving behaviour.

In addition to facing these charges, Gagov’s vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days, and his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on October 16, 2025, to respond to these charges.

The RIDE program, which operates 24/7 throughout the year, serves as a proactive measure to take impaired drivers off the roads and prevent potential tragedies. The OPP remains steadfast in its mission to enhance public safety through these enforcement initiatives, recognizing that impaired driving is a serious issue affecting communities across Ontario.

As Canadians, we must remain vigilant in promoting safe driving practices and supporting law enforcement efforts to keep our roads safe. With the assistance of community members, we can work together to reduce impaired driving incidents and ensure a safer environment for all road users.

As the fall season approaches, it is crucial to stay informed and responsible. Remember, if you plan to drink, always arrange for a safe ride home. Let’s work together to make our roads safer for everyone.
