Thunder Bay Man Charged with Impaired Driving After Collision on Highway 11-17


In the early hours of Sunday, September 20, 2025, a motor vehicle collision occurred along Highway 11-17 near John Street in Thunder Bay, raising alarm about road safety in the region. Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) quickly responded to the scene at approximately 12:50 a.m., where they discovered that one of the drivers had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

Following a thorough investigation, 28-year-old Rambert AJEI SHAW of Thunder Bay was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing. The results of the investigation led to a series of serious charges under both the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act.

SHAW faces multiple charges, including:

  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs

Additionally, as a novice driver, he is charged with:

  • Novice Driver - Blood Alcohol Concentration above zero

  • Novice Driver Fail to Surrender Licence

After his arrest, Shaw was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on October 22, 2025.
