On the evening of September 20, 2025, Ottawa witnessed a troubling multi-vehicle collision that has led to serious legal consequences for one of the involved drivers. Shortly before 11:30 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Ottawa Detachment responded to a report of a four-vehicle crash on Highway 417 westbound near Metcalfe Road.

Upon arrival, officers quickly assessed the situation and suspected that one of the drivers may have been under the influence of alcohol. In a bid to confirm their suspicions, a roadside screening device was deployed. However, in a concerning turn of events, the driver identified as 39-year-old Saad Naser refused to provide breath samples when requested by an OPP Qualified Breath Technician.

As a result of these actions, Naser now faces a raft of serious charges, which include:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

• Refuse to comply with demand

• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

• Two counts of driving while prohibited

• Operating a motor vehicle without insurance

It’s worth noting that Naser already had two Criminal Code driving suspensions prior to this incident, raising questions about repeat offenders and road safety in our communities. His vehicle has been impounded for seven days, and he has been handed a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension due to the impaired driving charges.

The collision itself resulted in minor injuries for two individuals, including Naser, who were promptly transported to hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for treatment. Such incidents highlight the ongoing dangers of impaired driving—a critical issue that continues to impact road safety across Canada.
